A 16-year-old has been charged with murder now that a 14-month-old girl has died after being shaken, striking her head on a dresser, Jacksonville police said.
Javarris Jawan Lane was initially charged with aggravated child abuse after Alexandria Williams was found unresponsive in a bedroom on Sept. 25, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Alexandria was hospitalized in critical condition then died Thursday. Lane was charged with murder today.
Police said Lane initially said the girl had fallen 20 inches from a bed at the residence where he and the girl lived on West First Street. Detectives were later told she began crying and he shook her, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Lane used a doll to show detectives how the baby's head struck the dresser twice, according to police.
