Trey Zwicker, 14, Found Near Liberty High School In May
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Family members of a 14-year-old boy found slain said the teenager accused of the killing will be tried in the adult court system. The development came after the 15-year-old suspect's case stalled in juvenile court for the past few months.
When asked what she misses about her 14-year-old stepson, Trey, five months of grief, anger and sadness poured out of Teri Zwicker."Everything -- I miss his smile. He was a good big brother. I just miss him," Zwicker said. "One day, you just hope that he'll come walking through the door, but you know he's not. He's really gone, and you can't bring him back."Trey Zwicker was found dead in a ditch near Liberty High School in May.It took 43 days for police to make an arrest in the case, and the suspect they charged is a 15-year-old boy. That suspect was in a juvenile courtroom for a hearing on Wednesday afternoon, and Teri Zwicker was inside, as well."Anger, sadness -- you know that you're sitting there, staring at the person who did this to Trey," Zwicker said.According to the victim's family, a judge ruled on Wednesday that the teenage suspect's case will be forwarded from juvenile court to circuit court and be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment as an adult."You want to do something that bad, you should be tried as an adult," Zwicker said. That's what the victim's family has been saying for months. On Wednesday, Zwicker also said she wants a conviction -- and the longest sentence possible."He gave us a sentence when he took Trey that we have to carry with us for the rest of ours. So he should spend the rest of his sitting behind bars," Zwicker said.Zwicker said she doesn't know exactly when the case will be forwarded to the grand jury, but she said that's likely to happen sometime in November.
